Symptom: The car hesitates when pulling away, shudders at low speed, feels jerky, or the RPM jumps around at idle or light throttle.

Likely causes

  1. Software. Toyota's JSD campaign updated the CVT software on 2014–2017 Corollas and inspected a solenoid. Toyota Nation owners say it cut down on the shudder and RPM bouncing for most cars, though not all.
  2. Hardware found during the inspection. The campaign allows for replacing the valve body or the whole CVT.
  3. Recall on 2019 hatchbacks for the torque converter impeller.

Cost

Campaign and recall work is free. We don't have reliable out-of-pocket CVT prices for this model yet.
