Symptom: Harsh shifts and, in rare cases, a momentary rear-wheel lockup during a downshift from eighth gear. After the recall software is installed, the truck may limit itself to fifth gear and show a reduced-propulsion message.
Likely causes
- Worn control valve. GM says pressure slowly drops inside a transmission valve on diesel trucks. The recall software watches for the wear and limits gears before a lockup can happen, and a GM special coverage program then pays for the valve repair.
- Incomplete earlier repairs, covered by a follow-up recall.
GM-Trucks.com members point out that this recall covers the 3.0 Duramax diesel, not the gas V8 10-speeds.
Cost
$0 under the recall and GM's coverage.
